The Alake of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo and governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress in Ogun State , Gboyega Isiaka, have canvassed the need for stakeholders to embrace grassroots sports development.
Both the Alake and Isiaka said this on Sunday (27th Jan., 2019) in Abeokuta at a monthly squash game and social gathering of the Royalty Club of Egbaland held at the Palace of the Alake of Egbaland.
The monarch urged stakeholders in the sports ministry to return to the drawing board to re-strategise the state’s path to grassroots sports development.
In his remarks, Isiaka, who expressed worries over the dwindling fortunes of sports development in the state, promised to return Ogun to the pinnacle of sports if elected.
He added that upgrade and renovation of sports facilities across the state would be among his administration’s priorities if elected.
“Sport is one of the best ways we can engage our youth. It is also part of education. Now that human capital development is essential, we must invest in sports so that our youths remain productive,” he said
