Government reaffirms commitment to youth development

The minister of youth and sports development, Mr Sunday Dare, has reaffirmed federal government's commitment to the success of the youth development mandate.

He made the pledge while declaring open a 3-day capacity building workshop organised for registered Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and Voluntary Youth Organizations (VYOs) at the Public Service Institute of Nigeria (PSIN) in Abuja by the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development.

The minister who was represented by the permanent secretary of the Ministry, Alhaji Ismaila Abubakar, commended the NGOs and VYOs for their enormous contributions to the promotion of national unity and integration as well as the acceleration of development in various spheres, including education, health, infrastructural development, sports and social services, amongst others.

He said the workshop was aimed at equipping registered NGOs and VYOs in the country with relevant skills and knowledge to operate effectively and efficiently, saying it will expose the organisations to the guidelines and criteria required for proper registration and recognition by the Ministry in line with the provisions of the national youth policy and other instruments on youth development which recognize the very important role Youth NGOs/VYOs have to play as partners in the implementation of youth development policies.

LSD Initiative was represented at the workshop by the CFO, Mr. Mark Nathan. Below are excerpts from the event.
